MY8 is aiming to be the change we all need to see in how our personal identifying data is handled.

Every time we provide our data to a third party, we trust them to keep our data safe and only use it for the purposes for which we gave it. Sadly, we often see that data being compromised, stolen and sold to others. We often forget who we gave our data to, and forget to update everyone when that data changes. Most of us have little idea as to the extent of which our data is being stored, shared, stolen, or monetised without our knowledge. Once our data leaves our hands, we have no control over it. It's also the case that the Organisations that are using your data, may be making decisions based on data that became out of date years ago.

MY8 is a single source of truth for your data; rather than giving your data to others, with MY8 you give them access to your data. This puts you in control.

Each MY8 account is referenced by an 8 letter code - mine is SPOONMAN. You can choose to have a randomly generated MY8 code or you can choose your own, if it's available. Random MY8 accounts are free and has a limited capacity for the data you can store in the account. If you want to choose your MY8 code, this requires a paid account and comes with much more generous data allowances; see the table below for comparison.

Why 8 letters? People generally find it easier to remember words rather than numbers, even if that word is a random collection of 8 letters. Eight letters also gives us plenty of combinations of letters - there are over 208 Billion available MY8 codes.

Many other platforms require a uniqiue identifier to refer to & retrieve your account; most use email addresses, as these are unique to an individual, and it also gives those platforms a way of marketing to you.

However, we know that not everyone wants to hand over their email address, and not everyone has an email address.
