The pieces of information we ask you to provide at registration falls into one of three categories, sometimes all of them:

• the first is information that helps identify you
• the second is information that we need to make sure we are operating within the law
• the third is information that is most commonly shared

It's important to remember that NONE of the information you put into your MY8 account is used or accessed for any commercial purposes by MY8, nor do we share your data with anyone else. The data you provide at registration could be used to help identify you and get you back to your family, so it's important that you provide as much accurate information as possible.

• Why do you need my date of birth?
  We're not allowed to provide our services to anyone under 16 years of age.
• Why do you need my sex at birth?
  We record your sex at birth and your current sex because sometimes, people change sex. If we know that your sex has changed since birth, it will help avoid confusion if your MY8 is needed to identify you; however, if you're not comfortable providing this, there is a NOT APPLICABLE option you can select
• Why do you need my current address?
  This falls into the category of "most commonly shared" and will help get your lost items returned to you. Again, we do not use this information.
• Do you need my email and mobile phone number?
  We only use this to help you recover your account if you forget your details. You don't have to provide either, but without at least one of them, if you forget your details, your account will be unrecoverable. We will not use either for any purposes other than account recovery and keeping you informed about important activity on your account.
