MY8 is NOT a messaging platform

MY8 provides limited facilities for messaging amongst MY8 users and receiving messages from anonymous users. MY8 is NOT a messaging platform, the functionality only exists to support some of the USE CASES of MY8.

Messaging through Containers

Each Container that you create has the option for allowing viewers of that Container to send you a message. You can turn this facility on or off since the viewers of the container are controlled by the Access Level set on the Container and the Items mapped to it. You may not wish to receive messages from anonymous users, but the facility exists because it would be useful for anyone to contact you if they found an Item you'd lost which had your MY8 details on it.

You can turn Container Messaging on or off through the Container's Detail page. Setting the Messaging Level to HIDDEN will disable messaging for the Container.

You can only message a user who isn't a Contact if they've enabled "Send me a message" in one of their Containers. This is by design and one of the safety features of MY8.

Messaging Contacts direct

You can send messages to your CONTACTS directly without going through a Container. On the Messaging screen, select the Contact you wish to message. Messages are a maximum of 300 characters.
