Mapping Items to Containers
Items are shared through Containers
Items are the data that you store and share through Containers.
We do not share Items directly; Items are mapped to one or more Containers, and it is the Containers that are shared. We do this so that we can control more closely who is allowed to see the Item. The same Item may be mapped to two different Containers, and be given different Access Levels in each.
There are three important properties that are set when we map an Item to a Container:
- The Item being mapped
- The Access Level of the Item when mapped to the Cntainer
- The Value of the Item when mapped to the Container
When an Item is mapped to a Container, it is now marked as being "in use". You cannot delete items that are mapped to Containers - if wish to delete an Item, you must first un-map the Item from all Containers.
Mapping to a Container
SHERLOCK's Item "My Hound's Name" is ready to be mapped. On the Item Detail page, we can see that it's not mapped, so the DELETE ITEM option is displayed.
You can also see the Containers that the Item can be mapped to; you might notice that you can't add any new Items to the Identity Container.
The Item "My Hound's Name" has been mapped to the "My Pets" Container. Now the Item is in use, the Delete Item option has disappeared, and instead, a section displays the Containers that
the Item is mapped to.
