How is my data stored?

Keys, Values and Types

Each MY8 account is referenced by an 8 letter code - mine is SPOONMAN. When you register your MY8 account, you supply the answers to certain questions. These questions provide the data commonly needed to identify you.

Each piece of the data that you enter is stored as a key / value pair, know as an item. Here is one of my items, the country where I was born:

The KEY of the item is "COUNTRY OF BIRTH". The VALUE of the item is "UNITED KINGDOM"

GLNM is the four letter code used by the system to identify/refer to the item.

"COUNTRY" is the TYPE of the data; we'll cover this in a later article.

You can create as many items as your account allows. Don't repeat yourself, store any piece of information once.

Each piece of data is encrypted by the system a number of times before being stored in the database.
